The Eagle has Landed, 2013–2014

The Eagle has Landed was a multi-part public project inspired by Alexander Calder’s monumental red-orange stabile The Eagle, which stood in front of the Fort Worth National Bank Building for 17 years before its removal from downtown. HOMECOMING! built a sculptural component and a giant inflatable version of the sculpture, nearly as large as Calder’s original.

Over the course of 2013 and 2014, the inflatable Eagle made surprise appearances north, south, east, and west of downtown Fort Worth, with its spontaneous landings tracked on social media, before a final day-long landing in Burnett Park, the project’s “nest.” The project was supported by Downtown Fort Worth Inc., Fort Worth South, and the Fort Worth Arts Council, along with other community partners.
